i latch unto you—and i can’t let go

Experimental Animation for Gallery Exhibition - 2024

I created an experimental animation using motion design that was exhibited in the 2024 Undergraduate Open Annual Exhibition, Tethered Fragments. The animation depicted an aspect of the neurodivergent experience.

Problem: Create an original body of work for an art exhibition in any medium of your choice—the only constraints are that the work has to be reasonably sized since it’s going to be exhibited with over 100 different bodies of work.

Solution: I created an experimental animation using motion design, ultimately designing an experience that brings awareness to the underrepresented and understudied phenomenon of hyperfixations in the wake of emerging research in ADHD, Autism (ASD), and other neurodivergent disorders. The video is centered around how hyperfixations affect the neurodivergent mind, specifically depicting the experience of latching onto an interest and not being able to let go of it, hence the hyperfixation on said interest growing into something greater than it initially was. The creature in the video represents the culmination of all of the interests I’ve hyperfixated on throughout my life. The combination of movement, design, and sound used bridges the gap between internal, individualistic experiences with the mind and pre-established understanding of neurodivergent conditions in the general population.
